Cables
Cortland Fibron possesses the in-house capability to manufacture electro-optic cables. Cables of this type can be used to convey signals, such as video or telemetry, electrical power, or a combination of both. Signal may also be transmitted optically via single or multi-mode fibres.
Electrical signal elements may take the form of co-axial pairs, twisted pairs, triads, quads or larger groups of cores. These may be additionally screened, either individually or collectively, with tape foil or braided / served wire depending on the nature of likely external interference or the avoidance of signal leakage (cross-talk). Where the application demands, consideration can be given to specific electrical properties such as characteristic impedance or attenuation.
Insulated power cores may be offered for voltages up to 3.5 kVac, with conductors sized appropriately for the current / power rating of the system within its working environment. Again screening against interference or for safety reasons is designed according to need.
Fibre optic elements are selected from the many proprietary types available from OEM suppliers, and may be one of the various loose tube or tight-buffered constructions depending on the nature of cable deployment. The majority of such elements can be readily accommodated amongst electrical signal or power components with due regard to fibre survival.
Any such electrical, optical or combined electro-optic cable can be contained within water-tight sheaths and/or metallic or fibre strength member and be further accommodated with hydraulic, pneumatic or other electrical components to form a multi-service umbilical.
